A White-tailed Deer at the forest edge — the animal's autumn coat warm against the turning leaves behind it, the alert posture of a deer that has heard something and not yet decided whether to flee. This is one of Glen's most behaviorally precise deer studies: the specific posture of a deer in the moment of attention, ears forward, nostrils working, the weight shifted slightly onto the haunches in preparation for flight that may or may not come.
Glen observed deer across all seasons near his Ontario studio, and this autumn deer carries the authority of that long familiarity — the specific muscle tension of the alert posture, the way the ears turn independently.
