A snow-covered landscape under a full moon — the blue-white of moonlit snow, the dark treeline, the sky holding just enough reflected light to distinguish cloud from clear. This is one of Glen's most atmospheric nocturnal works: the challenge of painting a scene where the only light source is reflected light, everything cast in the cool blue-white register that the eye perceives in moonlight.
Glen's night and dusk paintings represent a distinct strand in his landscape practice — the same observed patience applied to a different quality of light. The moonlit snow carries its own palette, and Glen found it with the coloured pencil medium that allows for the slow, layered building of luminosity.
