A stretch of open water runs dark and cold through deep snow, cutting a blue line between the drifts. Two weathered snags lean through the foreground and a third stands broken in the middle of the view, ringed by bare stems. Beyond the flats, a band of spruce gives way to mountains patched with snow under a wide, moving sky. In the near snow, the shadows are laid in clear blues and violets. Glen painted the original in oil.
Glen's winter landscapes document the Canadian season at its most austere and most honest — not the picturesque postcard winter but the long, quiet, demanding one.
