A pale rock face rises straight out of clear, green-blue water, split and faceted into planes of cream, ochre and grey, with a dark cave opening at the waterline. High on the cliff, small enough that it takes a moment to find, a single cormorant stands on a ledge, watching over the water below. It is the sentinel of the title.
The rock itself is the main subject, studied plane by plane and crack by crack, and the bird gives it scale: without it, the cliff could be any size at all.

Choose one of three edge finishes. A mirrored wrap gives the impression that the work continues around the edge of the canvas. A white edge offers a traditional, untouched finish, and a black edge frames the work with a quiet accent, almost like a shadow.
