# Purple Violets — Giclée on Paper

A clump of purple violets in full spring bloom — the heart-shaped leaves dense and fresh, the purple flowers nestled among them, a few bare twigs from last season still visible above. This is one of Glen's most intimate and tenderly observed botanical studies: the whole violet clump rendered as a single living thing, the leaves overlapping and turning at different angles, the flowers appearing between them at different heights.

The violet was one of Glen's most frequently revisited wildflower subjects — it appears as a companion in his fawn paintings, his cottontail studies, his spring forest scenes. This dedicated botanical study gives the plant the full, undivided attention it deserves. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his wildflower botanicals are collected alongside his celebrated wildlife paintings.
