# Muskellunge — Giclée on Paper

A Muskellunge lunges through a weed bed in pursuit of a perch — the great jaw opening, the vertical bars of the muskie's flank vivid against the green of the water, lily pad stems and submerged weed fronds drifting in the turbulence of the strike. This is one of Glen's finest fish paintings: the composition entirely underwater, the quality of light through shallow, weedy Ontario water exactly right, the muskie's anatomy rendered with the precision of an artist who had studied the species closely.

The Muskellunge is the largest freshwater predator in Ontario, a fish of near-mythological status among anglers, and Glen painted it at the moment of maximum drama — the strike. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his freshwater fish paintings are prized by anglers and collectors alike across Canada.
