# Canada Goose — Giclée on Paper

A single Canada Goose drops into landing — feet out, wings braking, neck craning forward over a stand of autumn cattails. This is a 1988 watercolour and one of Glen's finest single-bird compositions: the goose fills the upper half of the painting, the rush grasses below suggesting the wetland without cluttering the image. The motion is completely believable, the bird halfway between sky and ground, committed to landing.

Glen spent hours at marshes and wetlands across Ontario studying waterfowl behaviour — the specific geometry of a landing approach, the way wings cup air differently at the moment of touchdown. That field observation is what makes this painting feel witnessed rather than imagined. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts whose wildlife watercolours are held in collections worldwide.
