# Red Fox and Cedar — Giclée on Paper

A Red Fox moves through a winter cedar wood — the orange of the fox vivid against the snow, the twisted grey trunks of the cedars framing the composition on both sides, dry oak leaves still clinging at the edges. This is one of Glen's most sophisticated winter landscape-and-animal compositions: the fox placed in a specific habitat, the winter cedar grove rendered with the same attention he brought to the animal itself.

The painting works because both subject and setting receive equal treatment: the cedar bark is as specifically observed as the fox's fur, the snow accumulation on the ground as carefully placed as the animal's paws. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; this Red Fox winter composition is one of his finest integrated landscape-and-wildlife works.
