# Bluebirds In Nest — Giclée on Paper

A male Eastern Bluebird perches at the entrance of a hollow fence post, his female just inside — her eye visible in the shadow of the cavity, the nest below her. This is one of Glen's earliest and most intimate bird studies, painted in 1965 when he was already demonstrating the close observational eye that would define his career. The weathered wood of the post is rendered with the same attention he gave to the birds themselves — every grain, split, and rust stain observed rather than approximated.

The composition is exceptionally tight and focused — nothing unnecessary, no distracting background. Just two birds and the post that holds their life together. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; this early work shows the foundation on which five decades of celebrated wildlife art was built.
