# Whiskered Owl — Giclée on Paper

A Whiskered Screech-Owl — the small owl of the American Southwest's sky island forests — rendered in the earth-toned camouflage plumage that makes it nearly invisible against tree bark. The whisker markings that give this species its common name are precisely rendered, as are the ear tufts, the yellow eyes, the streaked breast. This is Glen working with a species outside his Canadian territory, bringing the same observational discipline he applied to Ontario wildlife.

Glen's owl studies span the continent — the Whiskered Screech-Owl required the same commitment to correct anatomy and plumage as his Great Horned and Snowy Owl work, just applied to an unfamiliar species. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his owl paintings across multiple species and regions are among the most technically comprehensive in Canadian wildlife art.
