# Blue Jays At My Feeder — Giclée on Paper

Three blue jays at a backyard feeder on a winter morning — one launching in with wings fully spread and fanned, one perched on the roof with a peanut, one at the tray edge. The bare elm behind the feeder is rendered branch by branch; the whole scene is painted from the window of Glen's Maple, Ontario studio, where he spent decades watching exactly this kind of traffic at exactly this kind of feeder.

This is one of Glen's most personal paintings — the subject is not wilderness but the familiar, the birds he woke up to, the feeder he filled. The technical achievement is in the opened wing of the incoming bird: every flight feather individually placed, the blue and black barring precise and alive. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; this piece is beloved by backyard birders and serious collectors alike.
