# Eastern White Pine — Giclée on Paper

Looking up through the canopy of an old Eastern White Pine — the massive trunk at centre, the long horizontal branches spreading to the left and right, the needles in loose green clusters against a pale, hazy sky. This coloured pencil landscape is one of Glen's most architecturally conceived tree studies: the pine is not a background element but the entire subject, the viewer placed at its base looking upward into its structure.

The Eastern White Pine — Ontario's provincial tree and one of the most iconic trees in the Canadian landscape — receives here the same detailed attention Glen gave his wildlife subjects. The bark texture, the branch division pattern, the way the needles group and light passes through them: all of it observed and placed with care. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts whose work documenting the Canadian landscape spans five decades.
