# Calgary Foothills — Giclée on Paper

The Rocky Mountains rise behind a wide-open Alberta foothills sky — bare poplars in the foreground, a farmstead just visible in the middle distance, and in the far distance the permanent white of snow-capped peaks under a vault of luminous cloud. This is the scale of the Canadian west rendered in coloured pencil, a medium that gives the piece its characteristic warmth — the purple-blue of the distant hills, the pale gold of winter grass.

Glen made extended trips across Canada, and the western landscapes he encountered there produced some of his most expansive work. The foothills were a subject he returned to: that particular geometry of prairie meeting mountain, with the enormous prairie sky overhead, is unlike anything in eastern Canada. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts whose landscape work is collected alongside his celebrated wildlife paintings.

Produced as a museum-quality giclée on archival, acid-free paper using fade-resistant inks. A 1" white border surrounds the image, ready for the framer of your choice.
