# Brown Trout — Giclée on Paper

A Brown Trout breaks the surface in pursuit of a dry fly — the fish suspended mid-leap, its spotted flank catching the warm amber light that saturates the water below. Glen painted this early in his career, in 1969, and already the signature qualities are fully formed: the dissolving edge of the watercolour wash, the concentrated precision at the centre, the sense of a moment caught rather than constructed.

The golden-amber wash that surrounds the fish is technically ambitious — Glen used the watercolour's transparency to suggest both light through water and the glow of a summer afternoon, without losing the crispness of the trout's form. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; his fish studies are prized by anglers and collectors alike for their combination of scientific accuracy and genuine beauty.
