# Raccoon Family — Giclée on Paper

Four young raccoons at a summer stream — one hanging from a berry branch above, two at the water's edge examining the shallows, one watching from a mossy bank. The red berries in the tree above are just ripe; the stream below catches the late afternoon light. This is Glen's most complex raccoon composition: four individually characterized animals in a multi-level habitat, each doing something specific and true to raccoon behaviour.

Glen's group compositions demonstrate the additional challenge of painting multiple animals convincingly — each raccoon has its own posture, its own expression, its own relationship to the space. Glen Loates is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts; this raccoon family watercolour is one of his most ambitious and warmly received small mammal compositions.
